How to ruin a perfectly good strawberry cake


Let a five-year-old decorate it with sprinkles and too much frosting.

I'm with you on the dessert front. With only two of us to consume them (and one of us trying to lose weight and the other being told to avoid sugary snacks by his dentist), I mostly only make them when we have guests over. But yesterday the urge to make a mixed-fruit crisp overcame me, and now I have more than half of it languishing in the fridge. Most likely half will get pitched. And its very reason for being was that the fruit was going to go bad before we ate it. Clearly there is no logic to my thinking.

my fav preschool pick-up day was when they made/ decorated a class cake. and they had leftover pieces the moms could eat. it had like 4 inches of sprinkles on it. but every crunchy bite made me smile at how happy the whole class must have been dumping them on all at once.

Liz, I love it.

We did something similar at Jasper's end-of-year Pre-K party last week. In fact, that's why we had so much frosting and sprinkles around. Those shiny balls? The label specifically says "for decoration only." Oh well!
